Sheree The Wannabe One Day Shepherd

Wannabe ShepherdThis was taken summer of 2003, I think. Some day, I want five lambs of my very own! And a pony, and dog, and a cat…or four… For now, I live in the city and head for our cabin in River John in Canada - in the woods and near the seashore, for the summer. It is a good place to be private and write. This year? There was a raccoon and two eagles I got to know on a first name basis. http://www.lismoresheepfarmwoolshop.com/

Beloved Tunnuq and Sheree in Nunavut in Somebody's Daughter

Somebody's DaughterThis is me in first year of Somebody's Daughter Program in 2003 with Tunnuq, She was one strong woman.

The next year of the program, we were tent mates. Even though she spoke little English and Ispeak no Inuktutuit, we became good friends.

One night, in a wind storm, our tent collapsed and the main beam came crashing down, right between us, just missing both of us. Bernie ( Bernadette Dean) and I put the beam back in place and we all went back to sleep. Tunnuq and the other elders gave me my Inuit name : Naluaq. White seal skin hung out to dry. Tunnuq died in winter of 2008.

1993 Kissing a Rhino!

Kissing a RhinoThanks to Martha Langille, a teacher and librarian from Halifax who lived in Kenya at the time, and the African International Schools Association, a dream I'd had as a child came true. I toured three African countries reading and giving workshops : Kenya,. Uganda and Tanzania. The trip changed my life in many ways. And yes,. I did kiss this baby rhino. On the snout! I want to go back to other parts of Africa, but this time with my husband and stay longer. Africa is more than anything I can say with words.
